NHL general managers discussed the league's approach to emergency backup goalies after 42-year-old Zamboni driver David Ayres was pressed into service when the Carolina Hurricanes lost both their netminders to injury in a game against the Toronto Maple Leafs last month. The GMs looked at the rule that states a so-called "EBUG" is on site for every game and available to each team, and decided no action is needed.
