Dwight Ball announced his intention to step down as premier of Newfoundland and Labrador in a surprise video released Monday night. In an interview, the premier of more than four years said his decision was his choice alone out of a desire to spend more time with family. He defended announcing his resignation in a pre-taped video and said he stands by his record as premier despite the financial hardships he will leave behind.
