Georges Island in Halifax harbour opens to the public
Georges Island, a small but historic chunk of land in the middle of Halifax harbour, will be opened to the public for five weekends this summer after being been off limits to tourists for generations. The island was fortified by the British in 1750 and served as a detention centre during the deportation of the Acadian population in 1755.
