Canada's privacy czar says violations by Facebook, Equifax and others have highlighted like never before the urgent need to update the country's aging laws governing personal information. Privacy commissioner Daniel Therrien, whose annual report was made public Tuesday, also says companies must do more to safeguard the private data of customers.
