Money Monitor: Deals and convenience drive popularity of dealership financing for vehicle buyers
No one buying a home expects to sign a mortgage at the real estate office, but statistics show that most Canadians buying a vehicle will do the equivalent, signing up for financing before leaving the dealership. About 66 per cent of Canadians use dealership financing, compared with an average of a little less than half by consumers in nine developed countries surveyed earlier this year by FICO. Experts say the convenience of one-stop shopping and the expectation of promotions and discounts drive the trend. They add adding there’s nothing wrong with financing provided consumers are aware of their options and choose the one that best fits their situation.
