Paid sick leave should be permanent program, Singh says
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh says he hopes the new federal sick leave benefit is a building block for a permanent program. In a report Wednesday morning, the parliamentary budget officer estimates that only $50 million out of the estimated $655 million of the new sickness benefit will go to workers who have COVID-19, with the majority for people who have to take time off for other illnesses.
