Newsroom Ready: Former PM Jean Chretien on Trudeau, the West, and how nobody wants an election soon
Former Liberal prime minister Jean Chretien says Trudeau is prime minister of all Canadians, even those in Alberta who did not vote for him. Speaking to reporters on his way to a meeting in West Block on Thursday, Chretien said western alienation has existed for a long time, and explained how Trudeau's father, Pierre Trudeau, appointed a senator to represent Alberta when faced with a similar lack of Prairie MPs in his caucus. Asked for his thoughts on the Trudeau minority government being helped by the separatist Bloc Quebecois, Chretien said MPs are MPs, and anyway no party wants to go to the polls again right away.
