Federal government will appeal court decision ruling Emergencies Act use unreasonable
Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland says the federal government will appeal the Federal Court decision on the use of the Emergencies Act to end Freedom Convoy protests in Ottawa and at border crossings in 2022. Justice Minister Arif Virani says the appeal comes in part due to a separate justice finding use of the act was justified during a public inquiry reviewing the matter. (Jan. 23, 2024)
