Blanchet says icebreaker contract motivated by politics
Bloc Québécois Leader Yves-François Blanchet says he suspects politics are fuelling the Liberal government’s decision on where to build two heavy icebreakers for the Canadian Coast Guard. The federal announcement has been highly anticipated by Seaspan Shipyards in Vancouver and Quebec rival Chantier Davies, which have been fighting tooth and nail for the coveted contract since it was taken from Seaspan nearly two years ago.
