Beauce residents clean up after worst flooding in decades
Officials in Beauceville, about 90 kilometres south of Quebec City, said the town hasn't seen such bad flooding since 1971. The town is bracing for more trouble with heavy rain forecast in the coming days. An ice jam that had formed on the river just upstream from the centre of town gave way, quickly flooding the town Tuesday. The water had receded slightly on Wednesday, but was still well above normal levels ahead of rain forecast for Thursday and Friday. At least 230 buildings remained evacuated, but the roads were mostly opened, including the main street along the river. Thus far, 49 people have had to leave their homes, and six roads were affected by the rising waters.
